The Death of Freedom of Speech: Lincon Univiersity President, Robert R. Jennigns

Seems like the cooler heads were right about the video taking the man out of context, and we were also correct about him addressing this with the male group as well. There are also a fair amount of female parents (forgive me for pointing out their sex, it is pertinent.) who spoke out in support for Mr. Jennings. Reasonable people could understand what the man was saying, though the liberal horde and fashion-savvy fascists could not.

Feminists seem to spend more time making reactionary statements then they do thinking about, or doing things that actually make a difference; ultimately hurting there cause more then helping it. This is similar to the "Black Leaders" that white people have seemed to assigned to the black population of America in general, so please don't think that I am only including women in this assessment. There are obviously "feminist" men as well; this is not as much of a gender issue as it is a free speech and political one. 

It is also clear that speakers need to have their whole speech taped -- at-least audio -- if not to publish it, to put it out in rebuild just in case they find themselves in a compromising situation. In this "burn you at the stake..." society that we are living in, it may be prudent for everyone to just wear a couple of cameras everywhere they go, simply so they can prove they are not the horrible person that a video clip may unfairly show them to be.

Michael Noone, first assistant district attorney in Chester County, said he has no reports of rapes at Lincoln from last semester. There was one allegation of attempted sexual assault, but the case was dropped, he said, because it could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt - not because the woman recanted.

Other sexual-assault allegations have been found since he became president, Jennings said, and the campus took appropriate action. Lincoln declined to provide a number, referring a reporter to the university's 2013 crime report. It showed reports of three rapes, two sexual assaults, one domestic-violence incident, and two dating-violence incidents.

"No one would ever discourage a young woman on this campus from reporting a sexual assault," Jennings said. "In fact, I emphasize to them how serious that allegation is and that the university takes it very seriously and so does the federal government and so does the court."

He said he also addressed the issue at the male convocation: "I made it very clear to the men on campus that no means no."

Not everyone was offended.

"I personally didn't find anything wrong with what he said," said Carla McDuffie, a New Jersey parent. "I found what he said to be true as far as how he characterized males in that particular context of the conversation."

For faculty members, the speech may be the least of their concerns. They cite a 19 percent drop in enrollment since Jennings took over, high turnover in administrative posts, and the elimination of the teacher-education program - a result, Jennings said, of low enrollment.

Putting Research Into Practice

  For some reason no matter how much research we seem to have in an area; people still don't seem to believe what the research says. From climate change to LED technology and other renewable resources; the scientists seem to be ever questioned. Though when they are in personal crisis they seem very quick to rely on what the scientist says.

  I find it odd that from the same people I hear two completely different political voices, depending on the situation.  When it comes to money, meaning ones personal supply, many Democrats seem to be a republican -- though when the group or businesses money is in play, they are far more liberal.  You can see this same phenomenon when it comes to the republicans and medical treatment.  When it seems like it is a project for the group they seem to be less trusting of the science -- though when they or a family member is ill, they are all for science, and put all their trust in it.

  The really interesting part is that this is not a point of contention each and every time these topics come up, only when one is personally involved -- you can really see this when you have an argument with one or the other on such topics and relate them to personal experience.  Though most would rather gnaw off their own leg then to admit that they would like to force someone to make a decision that they themselves wouldn't make.  The really entertaining bit comes when you give them a set of circumstances, reducing to the ridiculous, that insist they go against their original argument; now sit back and watch the fundamentalist come unglued.   I am not really on either side here, just recognizing the hypocrisy.

  Unfortunately the problem the problem extends even further when we talk about speech and business.  The churches don't want their speech or behavior to be criticized while still insisting, based solely on their existence alone if nothing else, on criticizing everyone else. And again with business processes -- Republicans and Libertarians alike are always one's to want less if any regulation on businesses, right until you try to put a 'marijuana store' next to a church or school -- then it must be regulated.  Though if you don't want a drilling company to be depositing nuclear materials in your local waste disposal facility, well that is just some hippy bullshit.  Similar to how the people that work at the school act and the expectation they have of the children attending the school, night and day(I think it is also fair to say that this applies to university as well).

To say that one is supposed to have free speech and then we as a society try to control that speech when we find it to be uncomfortable is just as bad, if not worse than, denying the right to free speech all together. We saw this in the Anthony Cumia debacle and others.  I don't see anyone from either side coming to the defense of those that are attacked for simply saying something.  Though it seems we do, in both main groups,   protect people for their egregious actions; curious.
